The financial damage of Volkswagen´s diesel emissions scandal – A multi-stakeholder-perspective
Abstract
In 2015 the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) became subject to a scandal, which is widely referred to as “Dieselgate”, that evolved around the manipulation of emission testing. To assess the financial effects of Dieselgate to several stakeholders as well as the current state of research, this paper applies a structured literature review (SLR) methodology. The aim is also to identify potential future research emphases. We find 20 relevant studies for further analysis. Preemptive/preliminary evaluation suggests high financial damages espe-cially for European direct material suppliers, business customers, and competitors. Thereby this paper synthesizes findings from different studies to give evidence for spillover-effects.
